First of all, this “hagwon” is not at all in Dongdaemun central. It exists in the dirty back streets of a primarily red light district. Though Myeong-Dong, Dongdaemun, and even COEX aren’t too far, you won’t be within walking distance of much entertainment.

The school does not have a license to hire someone on an E-2. It’s a daycare. Expect to babysit children in diapers while speaking English.

Director randomly fires people, as she can, as she denies them E-2 visa issuance. Has no idea how to run a school. Speaks no English, and all but one other teacher speak solely Korean. Expect to be the only fulltime foreigner.

Director does pay on time, but don’t expect to last longer than your tourist visa runs raise the red flag at customs.

Director also didn’t get books or materials for classes for three whole months. Provides no direction or curriculumn.

Bottom line: If you want to come to Korea for a few months to make some quick cash before your tourist visa runs out, welcome. If you care to work legally and to be protected under labor laws, and to have a boss who doesn’t operate on a whim, and if your optimal position doesn’t require babysitting her oft-neglected son after hours, wiping up after children, then walking home to the sound of ajasshi solicitations, STAY AWAY.

I work at Wiz Island at Jeongja and i love it. I did see another review about the Wiz Island brand and I think that maybe that is the owner. Some of Wiz Islands are owned by headquaters and some are not. I am at a location that is owned by the headquaters and I have not had any problems.
Benefits and Pay- Overall, my pay has NEVER been late. I have never had to question anyone , it has always been there. Also, if it is on a Sunday they have always placed my payment before the date. (Which is super nice!) My vacation time is only 5 days but honestly it’s not a big deal. I always get paid and there is a ton of national holidays.
Working Conditions- I think my school is very nice. I get free lunch and my hours are not to bad. They are also happy to speak with me in case i do have problems with something. They have always worked with me on everything.
Integrity-Fabulous, they have always done what they said they would do. For a hogwon what more do you need?!
Location- Jeongja is still on the Subway to Seoul, however the location is a bit more expensive than others. For example: My apartment maintance fee is a bit more than I would want, but for a great school its a small trade off.

Also, previously in a previous review by another person they stated that the children were too young. Yes they are very young however that is something that is told before everything. You know that you will deal with this age and you apply. This is just common sence, what would you expect if they already told you it would be that age. Also, I personally have never had to change a diapher or anything of that sort. A Korean teacher is always assisting with that. Thanks! I would recommend Wiz Island to any foreigner coming :) I’m from the States and I’ve had a wonderful year!

I also worked at Wiz Island, but in Sanbon-dong in Gunpo city. The management has changed now but it was a pretty good job. I had a good apartment, good pay, good working hours (9.50 am – 4.10pm), and no extra work sprung on me like my previous position. I worked there one year and never had problems with pay, they paid up my final bonus and airfare too. Only problem was there were no sick days, even when I had just come from the hospital with what was initially thought to be meningitis. I was very sick and it was ridiculous to make me come to school and be in contact with vulnerable young kids who could have caught the virus too. But the sad thing is, it’s the parents that force this on to the school with complaints about the native show pony being away for even one day. This is more a Korean thing in general, they don’t really do sick days, especially if there is no other teacher to replace you. But it was a good school anyway, although as I said it has new management now so I couldn’t guarantee it is the same today.

Son got job at Wiz Island in Bundang. Sent a signed copy of contract back to school. when in U.S.. He never got a signed copy back, but got a ticket to come work. Visa paperwork all taken care of. Contract promised a one bedroom or seperate bedroom, Ended up in a studio. Bed is a fouton couch that appears to have come out of a dumpster. Paid for Registration card, Still hasn’t got it. Started two day training on 29th of Aug 11. Told will not be paid till he started teaching and would only be paid on the 10th of each month.10th Sep no registration card, no bank acct, no pay. Last apt. occupant was a midnight runner. Now elect/water/apt fees and pass cable/internet are past due and will be shut off in a few days(cable/internet shut off on the 28th Aug). School is ignoring them. Looks like since he was having a problem controlling the class with no advisement. He has now been fired by his recruiter. Told he can stay 4 weeks to find another job. Can’t get ahold of recruiter and no access to internet, got to love it. Looks like it will be in the dark, No power soon. Also they so far have kept his diploma and still no pay and it looks like there will be no pay for any work rendered. I reccommend not working for this Wiz Island school. People friendly. Kids great. Principal not so and won’t even talk. I’m afraid this is one of those Korean teaching job nightmears you read about. Have your ducks definitely in a row before trying to work here. As you can see last person ran out because it was so bad.. I’m pissed.
