If you’re coming to SLP….I’m sorry for you…..not because you did anything wrong, but because you fell into a trap many people here in Korea find themselves. SLP (Slave Labor Program as it’s known in Korea and among ESL circles) has more than earned its reputation in Seoul as being disorganized and mismanaged.
Some people are definitely luckier then others at SLP. They like to play favorites…..but for most of you……when you come, you will find yourself in the office most days from 9am until 7 or 8 at night and occasionally so busy with extra work that you will have to take it home with you.
If you like being micro-managed…..well….you’re in for a treat……you will be verbally abused, harassed and in the worst situations threatened.
My advice………drink a lot of soju…….seriously
On that note……I sincerely wish everyone the best that is working there or will be soon.
I think there are also a lot of others that wrote here who have similar feelings and they also have some good advice about how to cope once you’re stuck at SLP. I recommend you seriously consider others advice.
For anyone that reads these posts and has never worked at SLP……don’t be so quick to judge or dismiss. All the posts here are for you’re benefit.
One final thought……..How many English teaching jobs are out there? ……..I’d imagine quite a few…….

Glad everything seems to have worked out
The clothes and electronics are pretty much like any workplace where you are going to encounter kids–be aware of what you bring. Show up with an iPad and the kids will wonder what it does. Keep your things in the teacher office (both buildings have them) and they will be safe. I hope everyone has a safe flight out! From what I understand you will be greeted by one of the two current head foreign teachers. Maybe you’ll meet an awesome guy named Paul instead, but regardless you’ll be in good hands. Be aware you’re going to have a couple days of chilling with the other incoming teachers while the outgoing teachers clean up your soon-to-be rooms! Hope everything is going well and I look forward to meeting you all!

Worked here for 15 months back in ‘07-08 ish. Since when did everyone at SLP start taking their job so seriously? I thought that guy got fired…
You should get the Battle Cat to crank up the noraebang machine in the gym and order in pizza and beer like the good old days!!!! And when you’ve drank that place dry, I’m sure No. 8 bus driver is good for a lift into Hongdae… ooops have I said too much already?
Yeah, everyone’s complaints and compliments are valid but in the end every job I’ve ever had in Korea (and I’ve had a lot) success at teaching in Korea all comes down to attitude and playing the game right. If you’re an ass, people don’t like you. In Korea this is more the case than you think.
If you think you’re having a hard time and the Korean teachers aren’t being nice to you it’s because the Korean teachers are having a hard time and you probably aren’t being nice to them. What goes around comes around.
So, smile, do what your told, have a laugh with your kids, and the parents will like you = your job is easier!
