SEA is a privately owned hagwon with two campuses in Seocho-gu, Seoul. One campus has Kindergarten and the other only caters to elementary and middle school students. The director, Sarah, works tirelessly to keep the school going. She is very interested in keeping the focus of the school on educating the students instead of just having warm bodies in the seats.
The curriculum is very good as it covers listening, grammar, reading, and speaking English equally. Although, at times, the focus does tilt more towards improving writing skills.
It is not a school that is focused on just cramming X number of vocab words into the students’ skulls.
The school is not perfect, but most of its problems are minor in nature. As far as hagwons go, it has fewer of the common problems and teachers there are generally happy about their experiences there.
You’ll never have to worry about not being paid on time. If there ever is a problem with pay, they sort it out quickly and fairly.
Communication from the top can sometimes come across as too last minute or too confusing, but they don’t usually ask you to do anything that’s questionable, maybe inconvenient or too last minute, but nothing that’s going to send you into a tailspin of anger or frustration.
I would definitely say to anyone that is interested in working at this school that they should not take the job if they are looking to show up and do a bunch of nothing. You are not paid to be a babysitter there. You must do a certain amount of planning in order to have each month go by smoothly. They DO expect you to show up on time, look presentable, and be ready to impart wisdom in a clear and energetic manner. This is why they generally only hire teachers that have some type of recommendation from someone that they trust or that have the proper education or work experience.
I would recommend this school this school only to people that are not looking for a free ride.
