I worked at Kid’s College-Walkerhill in 2008 and my experience was mostly positive. Most of the foreign teachers were competent and decent individuals dedicated to their students. Of course, as in any work environment, I came across some freaks of nature, and some slobs that did more harm than good. The owner and general manager is an honest and reliable boss who never (not once) cheated me or my co-workers out of money or compensation. Ensured that all our benefits (pension, national insurance) were all current and without any issues. This is a huge plus for this school. You will not be cheated out of your money. Shady practices, particularly towards foreigners are not uncommon in Hawons. The work was demanding and the assimilation time was short. You had to be on your top game during the whole year. Both management and parents were extremely demanding; but wouldn’t you be too? As for Boss-employee relationships, remember that in Korea, the social order is paramount. Don’t be offended if the boss seems non apologetic, or arrogant. I assure you that he/she is not. The boss is the boss and he/she will expect you to comply with this cultural particularity. Location is very good. you are in Gwangjin gu. it is a safe and fun area, close to Universities but away from places like Itaewon.

Unfortunately, times have changed. After a few bad apples (crappy foreign teachers) the boss has gotten incredibly paroniod. She screams at teachers in front of everyone, blames them for things out of their control, and hires incompetent Korean staff members. In 6 months KC has gone through 4 different Kinder Supervisors and 4 foreign teachers left before their contract is up. Also, the owner has started to cut corners and no longer pays pension. THIS IS ILLEGAL! There is no integrity left in this place, and foreign teacher/Korean staff tension is awful. The pros are that the kids are, for the most part, cute and appreciative. Also, payment is always on time and paid in full. Cons, the management is terrible and think dollar signs over respect for teachers.
