JungAn Education: Seongsu-dong, Seoul

I found out in the last couple of months that I had a massive tumor that was presumed to be cancerous. The doctors suggested immediate surgery for it’s removal. I wanted to go back to Canada for it but my company assured me that they would take care of me: help pay for my surgery and would be a support throughout the ordeal. I agreed to stay and have the surgery in Korea. Meanwhile my company refused any compensation for the surgery and instead sent me a flood of threats that I would be released from my position because the surgeons told them I would need 3 weeks recovery time. I continued to go to work for the entire month leading up to my surgery with threats of being released and with a tumor growing inside me. Finally when the surgery was over I realized I was too sick to stay in the country and notified my company that I couldn’t return to work as I was too ill and my parents had arranged fli! ght home. My manager assured me that of course I would be paid for the last month of which I had worked everyday. Needless to say they refused to pay me. This is extremely unethical. Needless to say I was left without a months pay and had to borrow money from relatives back home to pay for surgery.
Also in the winter they refused to let us have a heater, as it was too costly for them and they withheld our first paychecks for two months.
