Suji branch of JLS, up to now, has been one of the most relaxed branches in the franchise.
I stopped working in 2009 and it was the only branch where meetings were not required and there were no extra classes taught by foreigners that other branches were forced to include.
On top of that, boss is really friendly and although you won’t see much of him, you will probably like his timid nature.
The only problem I’ve had with the school is the clique like feeling with Korean teachers never talking to the foreigners and gossiping behind their backs (A LOT!)
During my last month there, I was very excited as it was my wedding and I invited the entire school faculty to the ceremony, which was literally 20 mins away from the school and none of the Korean teachers bothered to showed up (there are 25 of them) or say anything.
So don’t expect to make many friends there or have office parties. The social life at Suji JLS is non existent.
On top of that, you only see each class once a week, so you will never remember any of the kids, as you’ll be forced to teach 200+ different students that will change every month too. So it’s very hard to develop any kind of a bond with students.
Also, school requires you to commute 40-50 mins each way since you will be living in Sunae-dong and have to come to Suji. They pay extra 100$ a month for that.
However, you do get very few working hours, good pay and okay apartment in Sunae in Bundang.
Overall, I would give this school 4/5 stars.
+good working hours
+good salary
+easy to work at
+good area
+good kids
-terrible co-workers
-will make you VERY lazy
-no challenge after a month, you’ll be teaching same crap 5x a day
-good for a year, especially if you have hobbies/something else to do in the meanwhile, don’t stay longer
